I was taught to wash the glassware first, then silverware, then dishes, and last -the pots and pans. I always thought it was because we washed the least dirty first, etc., so as not to wash them in dirty water. (A point for dishwashers is the dishes are sterilized.)neldahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09060937003476627521noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-33950202.post-40870642879411440232010-06-24T13:02:22.140-05:002010-06-24T13:02:22.140-05:00This must set some kind of record for the most com...This must set some kind of record for the most comprehensive account of dishwashing ever! I enjoyed reading it.

We don't yet have the sort of problems you face but increasingly now we face hose pipe bans during the summer so the notoriously wet British Isles must be getting drier. I remember working as a mother's help to a Jewish lady and she used to laugh at my liberal use of water when washing up becuase of course in Israel they had to be very careful.Bevhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04676624646066417262noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-33950202.post-34824512288473575172010-06-24T00:20:14.043-05:002010-06-24T00:20:14.043-05:00We've frequently been under water restrictions...We've frequently been under water restrictions here. Ironically, when conservation is successful, they raise the rates to make up for lack of revenue from reduced usage! Oy! The only thing different we do is put the water in a dish pan rather than the sink. Then when the dish washing is over, we throw the soap enriched water on garden plants. The nitrogen in the soap is good for the plants. Just be careful not to accidentally throw silverware out with the dishwater. It's been known to happen.Oakland Daily Photohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04352365270299187377noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-33950202.post-1771027709987159642010-06-23T20:27:01.618-05:002010-06-23T20:27:01.618-05:00jomamma, that is good to know as we have used oil ...jomamma, that is good to know as we have used oil that I would love to give to someone to use in making bio fuel.

Debi, i love your water thrift in washing dishes, a very precious resource in a dry, dry land.Bobbiehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16568090556772960446noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-33950202.post-22508448346732012302010-06-23T15:05:08.991-05:002010-06-23T15:05:08.991-05:00Wow this is almost the way my Aunt Elvia taught us...Wow this is almost the way my Aunt Elvia taught us to wash dishes on the ranch... they had been brought up having to haul water so she was very careful with water use too. You can Google for places that accept used cooking oil to be recycled into fuel for trucks. We have someone here that will come around to pick it up. We just strain it through coffee filters and put it back into the large cooking oil containers. My son then takes it to work and they pick it up there.judithhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04070661448170951709noreply@blogger.com
