Berries

Berries

I'm on a roll here -- my third recent posting of unidentified things. Mom, you want to go for a hat trick?

They look very exotic berries. Good in a way that you can't identify quite a few things as it means that biodiversity is alive and well in Texas and that the environment must be one in which plants and wildlife thrive.

Exotic, but everyday. This is poke weed a wild greeb that is eaten only in the spring when it is young. You have boil it, then throw out the water and boil again to be sure the poisons are out of it. It is delicious though!

Correction: boil and discard water 3 times.

Another correction: that is wild GREEN not greeb :)

I love the pink stems on the berries! Beautiful picture. Don't think I will eat the greens, though - more trouble than I am willing to deal with, all that boiling! Bobbie, I'll just take your word for it that it is delicious, and continue to eat spinach and turnip greens!

Amazing phooto work Debbie. I am sooo getting ready to buy a DSLR. I hope before the end of the year we can match shots!
