Unworthy #2, uncropped

I had fun yesterday with the mini Name-That-Artist contest, I hope you did too. And some of you are very good, I must say.

It is interesting to me that my visual memory was as good as it was. (Now only if I could remember where I put my car keys.) It wasn't until this morning that I went looking to see if I could find an example of CHARLES HARPER's and JACKSON POLLOCK's work to show here. When I did, I was happily surprised I wasn't too wildly imaginative to have seen a little of them in those nature shots.

The uncropped versions of yesterday's photographs are here too as further part of the "reveal."

Is everybody as frantic as I am as Christmas approaches? Argh. It may be this evening before I get around to today's This or That and to make the rounds of the Bloggin' Neighborhood.

#1 gets my vote today. Again, the simplicity of it appeals to me. I see some of your photos enlarged (a lot) framed and hanging on a wall - and #1 is one of those.

This is very clever and interesting! I have just been back to the quotes to compare them with their styles. They do look very much like your photos.

I have heard of Pollock, but not Harper and love the picture of the 'Hare's Breath'. I don't think hare's really have heads that shape but I suppose he is a modern painter lol This is all very educational for me.

Wow yes, those are really good comparissons between your photo's and the art. You are so clever to even think of doing that!
I actually like the photo's more now I have seen the art, particularly the Harper one!

Yes, crazy busy and very tired here too :)

There is an outline of a hawk - possibly the shadow of a goshawk - large nasty bird of prey that can take a hare off the ground.

The hare is holding its breath...

Need to investigate this Harper - you can teach an old dog a new trick or treat.

Nicely done.

Everyone was so clever to pick Jackson Pollock for #2, but I can honestly say I haven't heard of Charles Harper (but do love this picture of his)! I picked Peter Hurd because he painted very delicate strokes with tempura paints, while his wife Henriette painted more in the impressionist tradition. Peter painted President Lyndon Johnson's portrait which Lyndon declared as the ugliest thing I ever saw...and he was he he. For those who aren't familiar with their works check wikipedia.com.

I was not familiar With Charlie Harper's work, but see now how I might very well be and I do see the similarity with your photograph. The starkness of it and the minimalism. I'll google him for more information. Very interesting. I do love Pollock and hope you take more photographs like it. I thought it was very well done.

Thanks, John. You've explained the Harper picture and I can see it now. It's absolutely brilliant.

The first one really reminded me of a picture of Harper's with birds on twigs - I don't know what it is called, but I remember being given a birthday card with the image on it. The two you have found really do compare with these photos - clever clever lady.

Thank you everyone -- Nelda -- for your votes today.

Actually I meant to put a This or That for this day, but never got around to it, working on homemade Christmas presents instead

Sweet Nelda, though, voted and being the only vote she gets the complete say: #1!

Nelda, thank you. And dear you know if you want any photo of mine, just say the word. It's yours.

Bev, something told me you would like Harper. Your love of animals, I think. His work seemed, to me, to capture that love.

Lisa, it's fun, isn't it, when you get on a creative roll. Things just happen that you could never have dreamt up. This or That has done that for me. Funny it should happen at such a busy time of year, though. What was I thinking!

Diane, yes, you got Pollock right. Fun, eh?

John, thank you. It was a bit of Serendip! ;)

Bobbie (Mom), that's a funny quote about Johnson. What a character he was. Not sure what kind of president, but he was a darn good big ol' Texan.

Irene, wow. I'm glad you liked that one so much as to request more. I'll keep that in mind, Sweet dear.

Frances, AFTER I found the images that corresponded with the photograph sections, I did feel somewhat clever. But mostly amazed. It's not too often these days I feel clever, with the old brain going rusty and all that.

Thank you everyone for joining in the fun. I had a blast!

Greetings from Beirut. I couldn't wait to get to my laptop to see what you've been up to!

Debi, this is one of my favorite posts: there is a certain complicity between you and the other 2 artists which leaves me wanting some more. A real stroke of genius!
