Night Rides #1 or #2

Double Exposure

Even as old as I am Santa visited me yesterday too. He brought me free time to play with a new-found method of reclaiming not-so-perfect photos.

Which double do you prefer?

I'm including small originals below because I hope you'll be inspired to try it yourself with an odd pair of photos and Photoshop's Apply Image. Oh yeah, you might notice I like the Exclusion and Invert options. Gave them that eerie look. That plus the fact there is no driver. OooEeeOoo.

Hi Debi,

These are incredible!! Really great what you did!!

I like #1 the best although I really like #2 also ... Both have such a sense of mystery ... I will have to try this!

Both have such great light! Thank you!!

Boy oh boy, you took these ordinary images and really spiffed them up. I love the colors and the extra dimension that apply image gives. I've worked on a few but nothing to publish so far. #1.

I like #2 the best, although they are both great images. The bush in #1 would be great with nothing else with it, don't you think?

Both are excellent - thank you.

I like that you share the originals also which p[rovidesd insight into process.

Two has an impressionistic quality - "stary stary night in tejas."

#1. It's very "Close Encounters"!

Terrific! I agree with Andi, who has summed up perfectly something I was trying to put into words about 1. Which is my fav.

I was looking at your work for November and it is wonderful, original and joyous- truly splendid.

The photo of the flowers on the blue paper is just a knock out.

Words, images, sentiments, outlook.

i hard choice, but i go with #1. #2 is close tho. i want to fiddle with it to bring out more eerieness. you have also sparked some creative curiousity, for which i am most grateful.

After reading everybody's comments, I still go with number 2, as I find it the eeriest. Also the most pleasing to the eye. Maybe I'm a warthog and everybody else is a swan. That's how I see it.

I like both of these, but #2 was much more ethereal and gets my final vote. The texture and appearance of the car being behind a curtain is what I liked best in the second photo.

Thank you everyone for voting.

Diane, funny how those dreary, washed-out pictures could be transformed. I hope you have fun with this technique.

Mom, although it is a great technique (to my mind), it also doesn't work on just everything. I should know. I've been working with various images for three days now, and only have a few good enough to share. But when it works, it is so fun.

Nelda, I think you mean the soapberries in #1? They are trees, but in this picture I made them bushes. They are so awesome and yet I feel sometimes like I'm the only one in West Texas who loves them. However, I've noticed the highway department has planted some on I20.

John, thank you. And thank you also for such kind words about November. I plan to take this month's winners and make them into a calendar too. (And another for the "losers?") In any case, I couldn't be happier that you -- with your artistic eye and quirky wordsmith-ing are here. You are joyous.

Andi and Bev, last time I did a double exposure, D.C. said it looked Hitchcockian. Now I've gone and done one Spielbergian!

Sue, Wow. I'm thrilled I've sparked some creative curiosity in one already so creative. I know I've enjoyed immensely your tutorials and, even more, your work.

Irene. LOL. You a warthog? In no way! Besides, I like #2 too. I like #1 also. Hm. I like them both and I would be a terrible voter as you can see.

D.C. (see Irene, another warthog, ha), thank you. I liked that look too -- something about it turned out kind of film noir.

I have such a great bunch of commenters/readers/bloggin' buddies here. Thank you all. Frequently the vote is just darn near tied and that makes me feel pretty good about both efforts. This time, #1 squeaked by with one vote ahead.

Hitchcockian too with this one. It like the car that goes into the lake at the end lol

Hi Debi! Finally I am back!
Congrats to you on being able to keep up with Xmas and photography!
I love this first photo, the car looks really awesome. It has that textured/negative effect look that I really like. I love the yellow at the front.
It's great to see you have found a new avenue of exploration for your photos. Can't wait to see what else you come up with!

Hi Debi,

I love these, and think you have really hit something here with this technique. How nice of Santa, for all of us!

I prefer #1, though both rock and it's almost not fair to ask me to pick one. But I love the flowers big and colorful in front of the car, and the angle/composition of #1.

#2 is a bit creepier, which is also fun. And thank you for including the originals, how inspiring!
