Tree Bark #1 or #2

"Tree Bark #1"
Swann Street West Odessa
Odessa, Texas

"Tree Bark #2"
Chambers' West Odessa home
Odessa, Texas

Yikes. My schedule is all off -- usually I post in the morning and here it is nearly 11pm. I've chosen a pair for today's This or That that doesn't require much explaining. The bark on the left is an evergreen tree I saw while out in the rain today and the bark on the right is from a tropical tree living in a green house I took a couple of months ago. I don't know the names of either!

Which photo do you prefer?

I love the designs on the bark of number 2, but the color and overall appearance of number 1. I love the little twirl of number 2, but the little flakes of bark of number 1, I love the delicacy of number 2, but the solid stoicness of number 1. Did you get my vote?

Well in case you didn't it is number 1.

I vote for #2. At first glance of #1, it made me think of someone slicing an overdone roast. #2 is much more appealing, to me, anyway.

#2, I love curly q's and this reminds me of this. I love the other one too, but #2 spoke to me right a way. :)

Debi, thank you so much for the new change. I so enjoy it!

Hi Debi,

This is one of the very hardest yet!! They both are so touching!!

But I think I am going to have to go with the subtlety of #1 .. tho I love the design of #2. But I will have to go with the texture of #1.

Wow. I like 'em both! (Is that allowed?) I love the ying/yang quality of the first one and the fanciful, playfulness of the second one. They're both great!

Wow!! Number Two has it's own perfectly furled frond on the bark, in keeping for a tropical tree. As Martin says, Mother Nature is an artist.

However, although this is a superb picture, I must plump for Number 1 because it reminds me of my own pine furniture, what with the branch obviously sawn off, and I love the look of the clean wood beneath, and love the smell of pine and sawdust....Also the bark is a lovely white colour. So not an objective choice again!

2 for sure. It is so mysterious and thought provoking!

No. 1 - because it is elegant, and quietly sensual. It is delicate and timeless.
I first went for no. 2, but the more I looked at it, the more I felt that it was trying to upstage no. 1. So no. 1 started to appear a lot more charming, a lot less "made up"!!! I'm probably not explaining this properly, but in the end, and for the first time I did change my mind - I went with the quiet beauty as opposed to the obvious choice. Yep. I'm sticking to this choice.

Thank you everyone for your votes.

Neda, who would have ever thought to put Boris and Natasha and Dali in the same sentence? You!

Martin, you should cook or comment, not both. I don't mind being called Debs. Some of my favorite people call me Debs. What can I call you, you cheeky munky you. Say, that's it!

Mom, shhh. My favorite was number 1 for the reasons you cited. Of all my pictures so far this one might be my all time favorite. So much to see in it: the flakes, the light, the colors. Mother Nature is Grand.

Nelda, YOU should be taking pictures and writing what you see in them. What you see is...well...unlike any one I know. It makes me laugh.

Windy, I had no idea This or That would be so fun -- or popular. Wow, huh? Who knew?

Diane, this is such an interesting experiment and experience for me. I love learning about what people like, don't like, and when it's a hard choice.

D.C., you don't have to choose. We could let a judge in Florida decide. ha ha That's a political joke since you are in D.C. A bad one, I bet.

Bev, I love hearing how you love your home. The red dining room, the pine furniture...it's good to love home and I'm glad when my pictures strike you emotionally like that.

Lisa and Zan, thank you. Exclamation points always make me happy!

Rima, this is weird. I understand you perfectly. When I was looking for another photo to go with #1 (my personal favorite), it was like they were all trying to upstage it. I finally had to choose, and decided to go for one that would please your sister. ha ha

I'm a little sad, but the winner is #2. But it's really a tie, because my vote doesn't count but if it did, I'd vote for #1.
