The Unbearable Lightness of Being #1 or #2

"Unbearable Lightness #1"

"Unbearable Lightness #2"

Which photo do you prefer?

It's just a few days until the December Experiment of This or That will be at its end and a whole new year beginning. I'm considering what to do next. Shall I go back to a Photo a Day calendar? Continue on with the successful This or That? Or challenge myself with other monthly concepts or with weekly themes.

What are your thoughts, faithful readers and voters?

Hi Debi,

I choose #1 - though #2 looks like a painting ... cool.

I like these choices every day!! More interactive.

I "met" you via the contests/voting and was so "hooked" by the method you combined and "yanked out" two associated images each day. The images first, the words and the spirit transcend.

But the November images blew me away - one a day with focus on vision. Need to spend more time looking at past work more closely.

Whatever you do will be joyous and make me smile and think and pinch (once in a while, please).

Thank you for being kind.

Shoot I vote for Number 2 - sucker for well lit grass. A glimpse of paradise within a red state.

I choose #1. I think you should do whatever you enjoy doing most, to keep it from becoming a chore. I have enjoyed everything you have done thus far! Also, I like reading comments from your other fans.

Keep on doing what you enjoy and we will enjoy it too :) I love #1, who would have thought that a street light could look so good.

I like #1. The street light throws a wonderful colour on the sky and builds a lovely contrast! Well done!

Hey Debi:

I like both of these for different reasons.

My suggestion for January: post a picture and tell us how you composed it (i.e. camera settings, any cropping or modifications you made in Photoshop, etc.) Doesn't have to be a lot of text. Just a sentence or two. (Rich Legg at LeggNet does this on his blog and I'm learning a bit as a result.) I love learning from other photographers, which is totally selfish on my part. Otherwise, I'm with Diane: I like choices and the interactive quality they add to this unique and beautiful blog!

Tough one! You have a good balance between light and dark spaces on photo one, they meet around the middle and merge togther with the trees etc instead of a hard line. It's almost like a night and day photo with the blue and black...but there is something I am really drawn to in the 2nd photo. I love it. The warm colour of the bricks, the eye's journey through the (tunnel? Archway? house?) to the view on the other side..I know I would have to walk through it if I was there! So number 2 it is!

I like #1, it has some interesting choices in it; the landscape, sky color, and the light reflected off the pole.

I like This or That, maybe do it weekly? I could see you wanting to add something new to your blog, but it would also be fun to continue this since it is so enjoyable.

Well, you could do this or that or something else. It's up to you, huh?
I am drawn to #1, but it seems a bit trite (for lack of a better word, not meaning to sound judgmental or harsh), where #2 is a more unusual view, so that is my vote. i am really glad i have made your blog one of my daily reading rounds. i learn a lot from your eyes, since i am still insecure about my photography.

I am new to your blog but I like #1 and I love having a choice to pick. This one was especially fun since it was a choice between lightness and dark. I think you should continue it and as someone else said publish a book. Everyone would love to make a choice about something that doesn't really affect their lives and has no consequences. I think it's kind of inspiring. Good luck with whatever you decide! I decide to come back and look some more.

I like #2 because it draws the viewer into the photo...like you were right there looking out across the field. This or That gives us a chance to participate in your photo adventures!

I think you should keep on with the experiment, but with a view to getting this work published as it must take some time and effort doing this.

I thought this was an interesting title 'The unbearable lightness of being'. This is something of an oxymoron as it implies that lives are light (or insigificant), yet this very lightness or significance is unbearable. I think you do the opposite in your work, by taking things which could be quite ordinary and insignificant, like street lights or tunnels, and making them beautiful. This is quite a theme of your work, I think.

I like No. 1 with the dark silhouettes in the dusk illuminated by the single street lamp. This also looks highly symbolic to me.

I love openings that you want to know "where" it goes. Both are lovely! I love nightfall best in the day.

I like the loneliness of number 2 so number 2 it is for me. I can imagine standing there and looking out at that view.

I like This and That, but I can imagine that you may want to go back to a Photo a Day. It's up to you. Whatever you are most comfortable with. I always like a Photo a Day too and couldn't wait to see what it was going to be. Artistically that may be the most challenge for you.

Either way, I will be here every day and comment on your endeavors.

Thank you everyone for your votes.

This pair of pictures really brought out the individual differences and preferences and I enjoyed reading about your favorite and why. For tally purposes, though, it is #1.
