Like a Huge Dandelion

Western goatsbeard, Yellow Salsify, or Western Salsify. Tragopogon dubius
Farm Road 826, Texas

This is a composition dreamed up for me to snap by my brother, and that's his hand.

Trying to find this plant's name before blogging it (google search "like a huge dandelion" worked), I discovered this is apparently a world-wide wild plant.

Its skeleton is lovely and I used some in arrangements this winter. Only at that time, I didn't know how to identify it based on its dried, petalless, seedless self.

Is that the salsify that we can eat? I have never seen it growing - planted it, but nothing appeared. Maybe we weeded it out when it grew?
love that picture. your brother is a good subject. parts of hands appearing in your pictures. gives a down-to-earth feel to the photographs.

A humble dandelion, but magical and halo-like when held up against the sky and lit like this.

I never cease to be amazed by your photographs. They are always so very well done and a pleasure to look at. You really know how to handle that camera and have a keen eye. It's eye candy to come here.

Isn't this the weed, we'd blow on and make a wish? Tremendous composition with your brother's hand.

Your grandma used to pick these in New Mexico and spray with hairspray so she could keep and admire them for a long time.
