Mad with joy

Yellow Bird of Paradise (again)

We West Texans should be absolutely giddy that these shrubs grow wild here. Or as Iris Murdoch once wrote more generally,
"People from a planet without flowers would think we must be mad with joy the whole time to have such things about us."

True - so true. But don't you sometimes get full of thrill with it all? I sometimes just laugh out loud like a crazy when I find lovely things in the garden. My daughter also sometimes tells me off for laughing when she's talking to me. When I tell her it's because I love her and feel happy, she has to accept that... overwhelming joy. Maybe we would go out of our minds if we were like that all the time, so all the better that we live in a world with horrible things to balance out the joys - I guess? LOL
Thanks for the picture - it is beautiful. You brighten up our days

What an unusual flower! When I think of bird of paradise, I think of the stereotypical Hawaiian variety. These grow wild in Texas? It must be really fun to run across them. They seem so anachronistic to the environment.

I am mad with joy during the blooming of the jacarandas, which I have now experienced only two seasons, but found out the name of immediately. Made a painting, and now that the blooms have gone until next spring (sigh), I must be content with that.

This is an amazing flower, and a beautiful portrait of it!
