My Neighbor

Kitten's Birthday present from her Granny
Crocheted "Totoro"

Not a good picture of my handiwork, but I had just finished crocheting this little friend for Kitten's birthday and was in a rush to deliver it for her 4th birthday party.

It's one of my first attempts at crocheting something other than a blanket. Any crocheters out there? I used this free online pattern.

Or how about any Japanese director Hayao Miyazaki fans? If you have little ones (especially girls), and even big ones who are still young at heart, you deserve it to yourselves to check out some of his films. My favorites are My Neighbor Totoro and Spirited Away. Kitten also loves Kiki's Delivery Service.

Oh, and she liked her birthday present. Even packed it with her for their vacation this week :)

how lovely, you are a clever one, Debi. That new friend looks GRREAT and Katlynn's shining eyes and big smile say it all.
I used to do a bit of crochet years ago in my Hippie days (are they over?) - but only ever in those big coloured squares - I never found out how to do fine work. I did have a pair of bell-bottoms made out of crochet squares. Completely crazy, even I only wore them a couple of times before I had to admit defeat. It stretched and stretched...and was quite open work... LOL

Never really got into anime. Your Totoro is great, wish my neighbors were this cute.

I think the best I can do is crochet a square. Katlynn is a lucky little girl.

My daughter would absolutely adore your crocheted Totoro! She's a huge fan of Spirited Away, Totoro and Kiki (I am too).

I can crochet squares and circles, whereas my mother crocheted tablecloths and curtains. I don't know how to read a pattern. I am a klutz when it comes to feminine skills. I am glad your gift turned out to be so well loved.

I can make pom poms, by tying wool round a cardboard circle, cutting it and then tying it in the middle lol

You seen to be a lady of many talents, because I also remember the pumpkin t-shirt and the paintings that you have posted.

I love this Totero, Debi. And I know why Katlynn is so happy to receive it. As you know I am a crocheter too, but it has been a few years since I crocheted anything. Now I am just crochety. hehe.

Awww. Grannie, you are crochety. ;)

Totoro is adorable. Now if only we could find some dust sprites from Spirited Away. ;)

It looks great mom.

I loved Kiki and Spirited Away and only just discovered them recently when they were on TV late at night here in Sydney. My grandaughters are a bit young yet (7 and 5) but I would love to see some more of his work.
