An Imaginary Place in Reality

"An Imaginary Place in Reality"
McCamey, Texas
August 2008

As part of tidying up things for the remaining days of 2008, I will be posting a few of my favorite artsy-fartsy shots from this past year that didn't make it to the blog.

Am I the only weird one that admires vents on industrial rooftops? This surrealistic row of vent stacks was on top of a restaurant.

This shot makes me want to see more and wonder what kind of restaurant might be located there. Perhaps BBQ or grilled goat?

It's been eons since I went through McCamey... I'm trying to remember. I'm thinking BBQ too.

Have you ever seen that really weird house over on either Santa Rosa or San Fernando and W.18th Street. It's like a castle. That would have some really cool things to take pictures of... if of course it's still there. It's better than Dos Amigos. When I was a kid it was set up as 4 apts. with the pool in the center courtyard, a slide was in the turret. Later a single family owned it and my brother had a friend that lived there. I always wanted to go in and check it out. When I first saw your picture I thought this was the chimney from that house.

I love looking at your 'area' pics...

It's a beautiful photograph, Debi. I would be curious to see more of those that did not make it to this blog. I bet you have lots of artistically perfect shots.

That looks like the post-industrial landscape of Prague. At least that's what it looked like in my youth as I ran through the snow to the butcher's for my mother. I remember the deep, stiff snow crunching beneath the thin soles of my worn shoes as I ran errands for my saintly mother. My father meanwhile, drank Stoli from the bottle and stared out of the broken window, hating his life. My older sister would sit by the dying fire, darning the family's socks. I knew that she yearned to marry and move from the bleak life that lay before her but Lord knows, she was far too ugly to find anything but the blindest of men.

What the hell am I talking about? See what your photos do to me?

And this photo originally didn't make it, why?! The composition on this piece is stunning. I love the line of vents, esp. the second one from the left. This is a photo that is frame-worthy, Debi! Love it!

I love it. It's all about seeing art and beauty everywhere you look. I get that.
