The Lilliput World of Lichen

The Lilliput World of Lichen
(as of yet unidentified)
Near Rankin, Texas

It's like a whole 'nother world when you look at it closely. I love lichen and fungi, both a beautiful part of the cycle of life.

I remember once when I was a kid in Oklahoma I collected as many fungi as I could find for a Show and Tell day at school. I must have found a dozen different specimens of all colors and sizes. The only problem was that I collected them on a weekend camping trip with my parents, and Show and Tell was always on Friday. My collection was pretty ripe and not very impressive by then.

I remain undeterred. These days, though, I can simply take a photo of it.

tee hee, I remember. I think this may be a type of cup lichen, maybe fully open. Google some images and see

Your grandma used to like these too and told me of how she used to play with the toadstools that grew under oaks at an old plantation house where they lived at one time. She loved the different colors, of course :)

What a beautiful photograph, Debi. The colors are just wonderful and I wish I had a dress in those colors. I don't know if we have anything like it over here, I have never seen it. I must look for it when I am out in nature next and see if there is anything remotely like it in that color. I think in Texas things are more exotic.

good for you closing the gates on the last comments - it's your blog and you don't need to be hijacked by political writers who disagree with you. Keep feeling pleasure in this moment.

Keep those pictures coming, gal.
