Stopping for the wildflowers on I20

Two leaved senna, white prickly poppy, bloom of the soaptree yucca, and a spent Tahoka daisy
North frontage road on Interstate 20
Between Penwell and Monahans, Texas

It was a day of stunning beauty. Interestingly, though, it was probably much less so for those travelers -- as I have been myself -- driving at 70 mph on the interstate. After living here and scouting wildflowers for thirty years, each time we stopped and looked I had a nice surprise awaiting me. I saw an incredibly some new (to me) West Texas wildflowers this year. I'll be posting those soon.

Tomorrow I want to tell you about another incredible find. It is now in the custody of the Ector County Sheriff's department.

I LOVE springtime in West Texas... especially down west of the Caprock. It's beautiful out there. I always wanted to set up a camera somewhere in the Sandhills and take a picture on the hour, every hour, from sun up to sun down. Sometimes you can see the mountains from the tops of the Sandhills.

My daughter lives in Houston and I guess that is West Texas, right? Although not the countryside. I wonder if she knows about all that natural beauty around her. I'll have to ask her if she ever leaves the city. You certainly don't have a shortage of wildflowers. Very pretty ones too. I miss you when you don't post!

Wow! Beautiful. We took the back roads out of Odessa to get to New Mexico and missed these flowers. Perhaps we should have stuck with the interstate.

Hope you're feeling better!

I love the prickly poppy, don't you? And what is the yellow one? Such a beautiful back lit shot. You know the yucca has a moth that spreads the pollen from flower to flower, we don't have that moth here and so my yucca never sets seed. Beautiful photos, Debi!

Tee Hee, Gossamer Woman, Houston is quiet a distance from West Texas, we consider it South Texas. They are in the Piney Woods region. They have some beautiful wild flowers down there too. The water lilies are fantastic.
