Fallen Thistle
"Fallen Thistle"
West Odessa, Texas
I took fifty pictures of a field of blooming thistles. I got the shots I wanted, meaning I got the nodding thistle, the thistle in sharp focus with a soft focus background, a thistle with the sun shining behind it, and several more. But, when I looked back at the photos, the one that spoke to me as something special was this one, the fallen thistle.
In three days, I turn 50. I'm not making a big mental deal about it, but I can't deny the bloom is off the rose. And, honestly, has been heading that way for some time. I'm not happy with how I look. But, I do like the way I see.

I like that, Debi, nice insight into middle age. I'm older than you and understand the joy in beauty and the regret about my own looks.
Lovely light and textures in that pic.
BTW - thanks for the temperature guide.
The temperature has fallen horribly today, it is pouring with rain and hit only 12 C today - looks like around 55 on your clock. argh, winter has come back
Oh Debi, age is just mind over matter. If you don't mind, it don't matter! I do find it more fun than the 40's and WAY more fun than the 30's. I think I may start swimming... I know I need some form of exercise I can become addicted to like I was in my 20's.
Debi - I'm a few years older than you so I can relate to feeling that way. I like the way you see also. Your photos always speak to me & I enjoy seeing your updates.
Ah, but with age comes wisdom, right? And, obviously, the knowledge of what makes a great photo!
You and your thistles.
Today we are 49. We have 2 more days of being 49 together. How you look to you isn't as important as how you look to us. We never look as good as we want to. I'm a fright to me but if you like me, cool. I like the way you look. In a couple of days, you'll be 50 and I may not like your looks so much anymore. Such is life. Send me a good photo of you a day from now, then another one on your birthday and let me judge the depth of your beauty. Let's see if you lose anything.
Hang on everyone! Sixty is even more fun...lol!
Frances, I wondered where our cool weather went and now I know.
Debi, love this fallen thistle...the way the prickles curve is most interesting.
