Good Dogs. Good Dog Food.

Dog food recipe
For Ansel and Dixie. With love.

It's not as cheap as dried dog food, but I think it's a better value for the health and happiness of my dogs. They get dried half the time. Homemade, the other half. (If I were rich, they'd get homemade all the time.)

Basic recipe:
1/3 protein, 1/3 vegetables, 1/3 carb. Sometimes I drizzle some olive oil over it.

This batch:
1 lb fried chicken gizzards
1 lb thawed frozen mixed vegetables
3 cups cooked white rice (brown would probably be better).

Cost:
About 2 bucks, enough for 2 happy, medium-sized dogs for 2 days.

What lucky dogs! I must try this with Scamp some time.

Your posting yesterday where you used the minimum amount of washing up liquid has reminded me of what a washing cleaner repair man told my sister in law. That is never use the amount of powder stipulated on the box. Use the minimum amount needed to get your clothes clean. The manufacturers are trying to sell as much washing powder as possible so it's in their interests to be on the generous side when stipulating any amounts to be used. She said it worked for her and the clothes are just as clean.

My sister the Vet Tech used to feed her dogs rabbit and rice. She got the already processed rabbit meat from a guy there in West Odessa. For dogs you can even use freezer burned meats, they don't mind. I'll see if I can find out who it was she got the meat from. It was pretty cheap. Head to Sam's for the rice and veg...
