Narrow Fellow

Snake

The other day, while sitting on my porch steps, I looked over in the flower bed to see a few inches from me an unexpected -- and to be honest, unwelcomed -- visitor. I have no idea what kind of snake this is. Anyone know? Of course, fear or no fear, I took pictures, a few feet away, using the zoom!

As the great American poet Emily Dickinson once wrote,
...never met this fellow,
Attended or alone,
Without a tighter breathing,
And zero at the bone.

Goodness me! You saw this on your porch! I think you were a very intrepid photographer.

I'll have to be very careful what I say about snakes here as my husband likes them and once used to keep two King Pythons. I let him do all the care, but once heard my dog Tessa barking and came down to see that one of them had escaped from the cage. Needless to say I ran back upstairs, shut the door and summoned my husband back from work to put him back. Like the way they move though, in an 'S' motion. Very clever to move like this when you've got no legs!

Zero at the bone would be me for sure! Bev, I don't think I could sleep at night if I had a snake in the house. I know it is unreasonable to feel this way, and I respect their right to this world, but sssshuuudddddeerr! In any case I believe this is a western coachwhip.

eeeeewwwwweeee is all I can say. Yuck! Can you tell that I don't like snakes? I, like Bev, used to have a husband (he was just the boyfriend at the time so I still was being polite and not saying anything) that had two Burmese Pythons and one King python. Needless to say, they ARE gone now. ha!
