Mother Nature Painting #1 or #2

"MNP #1"
Fern-y grass

"MNP # 2"
Fruit tree
West Odessa, Texas

Which photo do you prefer?

I remember how much Irene said she especially liked the 'Jackson Pollock' photo a week ago. It inspired me to go looking for more of the same in my recent folders. I realized I take a lot of these kinds of shots, these wild tangles and slings of color and lines by Mother Nature.

People say this part of the state is ugly. ("The armpit of Texas" we are called because of our location in the shape of Texas but more likely referring to our distasteful landscapes. Hm, perhaps because of the pervasive smell of oil, too.) Gosh, I'm not going in the right direction here. What I mean to say is that I disagree. It's just you have to look closer here. Nature abandons no one in no place.

As one of my all-time favorite writers, Edward "Cactus Ed" Abbey -- that complex curmudgeon who I would have happily been one of his many unhappy wives if given the chance -- once wrote, "Nature is indifferent to our love, but never unfaithful."

(Likely the opposite could have been said about his love.)

#2#2#2!!! Glorious colors! I can't imagine what light that was taken in, but it is perfect. Our "part" of the country does have it's beauty. Not many places has as beautiful sunrises and sunsets. I think most people, including me, fail to see the natural beauty West Texas affords, if only we slow down to see it. Thank you for slowing down, capturing it, and sharing it.

I really like number 1 but I would flip it so that the colors are on the left. We read left to right and our eye wants to go to the right and then down - years of reading, writing, and eurythmics.

By placing the colors to the upper left we force the eye back to the top left and, thus, create movement.

I am not sure at all about blogger etiquete. I hope you take this as discussion and not criticism.

I realy appreciate your journey and the images you make create delight.

I absolutely love and adore number two, it is great. It has wonderful color and light and makes me smile to look at it. It is a joyful photograph. Just what we need today.

I did think they were more Pollocks when I first clicked onto your blog.

You have a great angle on your photography if people say that about where you live. I have certainly never got that impression from looking at your photos, so there you are. Anyway people say Hull(where I live, though on the outskirts and not in any of the worst bits) is the worst city in the UK in every way, so I have some fellow feeling on this.

Number 2 because the leaves are like rainbows!

Because I am hyper-sensitive to language I just don't like the sound of 'more Pollocks' on my previous comment. I don't know whether I need to be or not, and I have obviously been woryying about it and have come back to it. I love modern art and Jackson Pollock is a particular favourite of mine. I am only joking like this because I think you have a great sense of humour lol Merry Christmas!

No. 2 gets my vote here. I LOVE the colors! Reminds me of a Morris Louis painting.

Thank you everyone for your votes.

Nelda, do you like #2? ha It does take time to see beauty here -- and a camera to frame it just right. ;)

John, you are well within the bounds of blogger etiquette. I appreciate your constructive feedback -- indeed, I crave it.

Andi and Sue and Mr. K, thank you.

Irene, I'm so glad you liked one of these so well. Of course, I was thinking of you when I posted it.

Bev, I would have never known that about Hull from your blog! Goes to show you, doesn't it? There is always some place to be picked on by others. ha

Diane, thank you. Weren't the colors fabulous? Wish I could paint like that.

D.C., I had to google Morris Louis, and you are so right. Number 2 is reminiscent of his work. Wow. I'll have to look more -- both at his work and more of nature's original. (I almost wrote "imitation," but that's not right, is it?)

It's by a landslide, #2. And I am very glad to John for voting for #1. It would be sad to have one of the This or That's not even garner one vote.
