Shadows and Patterns

2 Thing Challenge for March 1, 2009
It's been a while since I've done a 2 Things Challenge. (Everyone is invited, check it out.) When the two things were "Shadows / Patterns" for this week, I went on special alert. Yesterday when I came across this, I knew things had all come together neatly. I had been meaning to take a photo of one of these for at least a year. I'm curious, can you tell what it is?
Thank you to Janet for the challenge and opportunity.

When I saw this challenge I immediately thought of your picture of your cat's shadow by the windowsill. It was so good I thought about cheating a bit and holding my dog against the window for something similar :)
looks like a ladder on a gasometer. What is it? tell.
apart from what it is, it is beautiful and enigmatic. Escherish
It's the stairway going up to the top of a large oilfield storage tank.
You have such a talent for these industrial type things. The mix of shadows and patterns draws one into the photo and dances your eyes around for awhile. Lovely!
Ooh, wish you'd done this last year so that I could put it the grouping of your stuff that I'm working on.
By the way, I have 12 photos left. I ought to be able to knock them out next week.
Awesome entry. Yes it is a great theme! I was committed as soon as I read it too. I love your pics:) I am guessing stairs on some sort of tank? Go well!
Speachless Debi! Your photography just gets better all the time. Love the shadows!
H-m-m-m Looks like someone needs to call on IMC - those tanks need painting!
I've come back to look more closely at this in lieu of looking at new photos and the blue side looks as though the stairway is through the sky. It is a magical surreal image.
Remarkable complimentarty colors...natural gas or oil tanks.
It seems to be a staircase, but it is so hard to tell which are steps and which are shadows. Fantastic photo!
