Dying Yucca

"Dying Yucca"
(How can I resist?)
West Odessa, Texas

I've gone ga-ga for yuccas recently and I'll tell you why. I have learned how to extract the fiber from of it! (Of course, using a little help from the internet.) In particular, I've learned how to extract the fiber and make cordage. I'll post some pictures here of it when I get good at it. My ultimate goal is to be able to make something not only useful (cordage is useful, even though you can buy it cheap at the store), but pretty, too, like maybe a basket or a carrying bag or something. Oh and don't get me started on wanting to dye it too. That's a whole 'nother subject.

Any of you do or have done any weaving, basket-making, dyeing, etc. with plants?

No, I'm sorry, I am not that handy. Just a city girl, you know.

You have captured beauty in this dying yucca. The spikes look like they would be great material and strong too. Grandma would have known how to as she tried most everything :)

I remember once dying things using plants as a kid growing up in N. AZ. It was fun!
