Pretty and ugly

Saw-leaf daisy, Prionopsis ciliata

Doesn't this color of yellow just make you happy? I had to put something up nice because in contrast, look what I'm dealing with these past few days. This is what happened when I was painting and took a misstep off the ladder. I crashed into my bathroom sink. The old drywall cracked under the pressure. Thankfully, except for some pretty ugly bruising, I'm ok.

So, my "little" paint job has turned into a discouraging mess. But with the help of a dear friend, we have re-enforced the wall with two-by-fours, put new drywall up, re-textured (patches never match though, sigh), and today I'm repainting that wall, after first, of course, having to go buy more paint.

Surely this time tomorrow all will be well again. Does anyone remember the fabric skirts women in the 40s and 50s used to put around their sinks to hide the ugly pipes? I think I'll do that. Wonder how they attached it?

I know, I know... :) Can you see my hand in the air, pick me, pick me... lol

I did this in my laundry room last year and have since taken it down (what to a new system in there), you take velcro, well first hem your materil, then put velcro online the hem, take the sticky sided velcro and line it along the area you want the skirt to hang from, presto, you can now take it down to wash etc. . I loved it while we had it up, but then I started teaching Hannah how to do laundry and the skirt seemed to complicated to move the laundry baskets in and out of. (Isn't that funny!)

I know these directions didn't make much sense, (missed a bunch of steps...lol)but I am sure you get it. :)

I can hardly wait to see what you do. It is making me want to get back to the house and work on some of our projects, actually, finish some of our projects.

Have a fabulous day!!

LMAO!! Ok, 4 comments, sorry, but I have a lot of blog'n withdrawl swirling around in me today. :)

I love that yellow and if I were brave enough and didnt think my husband would commit me, I would paint a wall that color or a bathroom. I love sunflowers and always will, but the yellow of a sunflower, well there is not another color like it... It is strong, prestine, inviting, warm and yes, intelligent!! :)
Thank you for sharing!!

Oh, crap! hehe...
Glad you're ok, but still check with an osteopath for these bruises.
Windy is right, velcro is it for those skirts - there are lots of places online where you can find pics and easy how-tos, seems to be quite trendy for laundry rooms and bathrooms. Will you be using the beautiful curtain fabric or the vintage ones you found a couple of months ago?
And no, I'm not playing around, I really am working - this is my five-minute break. I finally settled on the look of the new logo, yay me (and Neda, what a tough critic she is, sheesh..)

You can use velcro, as long as you remember to get the sort that sews on to fabric on one side and sticks on on the the other side.
What they used to do in the days before Velcro, was to use that plasticated wire and two small round hooks one at each end(they still use it for net curtains) with their little partner hooks fixed into the wall and then you run the curtain round the sink rim.

Sorry you fell in the sink. Getting christened again?
We are trying to redecorate a tiny en-suite shower room for my daughter, it is swear time all the way. I want to get everything done before I tile the floor, so I don't get paint on it. What a horrible job! I think we probably have to stand in the sink to do it. We have pedestals here, they are ceramic and they fit under the sink and the sink rests on them. Looks purdy and is a bit stronger.

So glad you are ok and clever you to figure out how to fix it. You will turn into a regular handy-woman for sure. When things happen like that I just want to cry and wring my hands, but of course after that I have to get to work and fix the mess. You know for the life of me I couldn't remember how the old skirts were fastened before velcro. But Frances remembered and that made me remember too :)

I'm glad you aren't badly hurt and that you are handy with two by fours and such things. That bathroom is turning into quite a project, isn't it?

I don't know anything about hanging curtains around sinks, so I can't help you there, but I am sure that whatever you come up with will look beautiful.

Good luck finishing everything. Is the deadline this week when Audrey gets back from staying with her Dad?
