Happy Halloween

Antigone's "pumpkin", October 2007

Antigone asked me to paint her shirt with a pumpkin on it. I have to say that the "canvas" was perfect for it :) Happy Halloween all you kiddos!

Doorway

West Odessa, October 2007

I'll be catching you up with some of my favorite photos taken in the last weeks. This one was taken a couple of Saturdays ago when my friend Donna and I went on an early morning photo safari together. Of course we had a glorious time, as always. :)

Fresh (re)start

Acrylic on vintage encyclopedia page, Debi 2007

Just this morning I completed the loading of my new computer with all the stuff from the hard drive off my old computer. What a long-drawn-out job that turned out to be. It's nice to report this feeling of a fresh start. I'm glad to be back in action. Yay!

She's Alive!

Katlynn's wink, July 2006

Sometimes the stars align to make your world as perfect as it can be. I'm happy to say I've had lots of those moments. (Like when this picture taken last summer when we were selling aprons at a craft show in Monahans.)

But sometimes things misfire, misalign, and create temporary havoc of your world. That's been my experience the past few weeks. I am well but have had a myriad of things going on that have prevented me from posting. That includes my beloved computer being on the fritz. (One of Murphy's Laws, I'm sure.)

Hopefully I get my computer back today and starting tomorrow I can post daily again. I look forward to grooving back in the zone. I deeply appreciate your concern and I'm so sorry to have caused you worry.

Mum

Chrysanthemum

What October would be complete with a mum?

Leaves

Leaves

I used to think this was called a Bird of Paradise tree, but now after googling it I'm not so sure. Even without a definite name, its drying leaves are pretty, though.

Birds of a feather

Grackles and mourning doves

Another welcomed sign of Autumn: when birds begin to flock together like this.

Autumn plumes

Autumn plumes

At last we had a day that felt something really like Autumn! I don't know what this vine is called (Apache plumes?), but this time of year it is very pretty, growing wild along the roadside fences.

Old porch shadows

As a couple of you noted, I guess I am doing a lot of looking up these days.

Commemorative Air Force

Over my house

I don't know much about planes, but I do know that some people -- guys mostly -- get really excited about the Commemorative Air Force. Last weekend they had their annual air show. Even though the headquarters and museum is almost 30 miles from me, these four planes flew over my house several times. Before I had my camera in hand they even did some interesting formations -- were they practicing, or showing off? Either case, it was entertaining (and free).

Someone to watch over me

Security light

This is the light in my back property. I don't pay for it to be on, but it's been there since I've lived here. Even though it's unused I guess to get rid of it I would have to pay the electric company to have it removed. They call this a "security light," and that's funny when you look at it from this view where it looks something like an eyeball looking down.

October Still Life

Ready for October

Weatherman says it will reach the 90s the next few days. I wonder when Fall, my favorite time of year, will begin?

Remember?

Katlynn and her dad

It might be quite a while back for some of us, but remember this feeling?

Family Reunion

Irene and Travis

A change of plans! This weekend I went to the Johnson family reunion in Brownfield, Texas. No, I'm not a Johnson, but my friend Donna's man Travis is and they kindly invited me to join the fun. I had a wonderful time. I was especially pleased to see Irene again, Travis' mom, and to see and hear Travis play some Texas Swing with the family band. My favorite part was when Travis sang, "I Ain't Never"

Well, I ain't never, I ain't never
Seen nobody like you, no, no, no
Never have I seen nobody like you

You call me up and say to meet me at nine
I have to hurry, hurry, but I'm there on time
I walk a'right up and knock on your door
The landlord says, "she
ain't a'here no more"

I ain't never, oh, darling
Seen nobody like you, boo hoo,
But I love you
Yeah, I love you, I love you just the same

You tell me sweet things that you don't mean
You've got me a'livin' in a haunted dream
You make me do things that I don't want to do
My friends all say what's wrong with you

I ain't never, oh darling
Seen nobody like you, boo hoo,
But I love you
Yeah, I love you
I love you just the same
I love you just the same
I love you just the same
