December 2007

The December Experiment is complete and it was time tonight to do my monthly calendar. I've done two. This one is of the photos with the most votes, and another "an alternative" for the one with the lesser votes. I'm carefully avoiding calling them "winners" and "losers," as you might have noticed. They were all good learning experiences. And your votes, which were only rarely a landslide, told me there is lots of preferences out there. I loved learning the particulars of them.

Wow, what an impressive showcase of winners! I loved this month of This or That. It was a fun way to view your blog and also a fun way to get to know people a little better. I can't wait to see what you come up with for this next month!

Ok, I'll start the suggestions - with, say, an emotion. How about hope? Is that an emotion? I truly enjoy your blog - check it at least once a day! Not only do you take excellent pictures, you write just as excellent.

Wow! I seem to use that word a lot on your blog! I am amazed at your energy and commitement! Oh and you are brave too! I wanted to do something similar to this but I was afraid of not getting the responses! So anyway..I have a few for you.
As a tourist (hehe) to your country (opp's state isn't it?) I would like to see things unique to Texas. Prior to your blog if I had been asked to describe Texas I would have said "Cactus, cactus flowers, hot, dry, blue skies, ranches, rattle snakes!"
I've always imagined a desert like place. So that's it. Pretty broad really..the heart of Texas. Things unique/native to texas.
Looking forward to seeing what you come up with!!

Since it's a new year, how about a pic of something signifying "new"? Hopefully that isn't too broad. Knowing you, you'll come up with something completely unexpected!

Ideas:

same object, different perspectives

What I would really like you to photograph would be shop window displays with the writing on the windows and everything, because that is what I have been doing.

And then I would like you to photograph laughter, although that may be hard to do. Grinning, giggling, smiling.

And could you photograph people's hands. Old weather beaten used up old hands and little baby's hands?

Those are just a few of my wishes.

Some ideas I would like to see, if poss:

1. Photographical depictions of great American films (I am thinking of your Close Encounters/Hitchcockian car, and the Dorothy shoes).

2. Ace camera technology assisted subliminal images (but nothing too scary)

3. More iconic images of Texas (like the steer gate)

4. More horizons

5. More photographs of your town, because I have only seen places like this in the films

6. More mini-worlds from an ant's point of view, using your macro facility

7. More making the mudane and ordinary beautiful, or the small and insignificant significant

8. A photo of Jorges (because I am nosy). OK, this is not a serious suggestion, and a bit of a cheek, frankly.

9. More portraits of interesting people you meet

10. A picture of your camera. It must be a very good one. Maybe this last suggestion is a bit too hard lol

Nice end to this not-so-good year.

I've loved every single photograph you've shared with us. You've inspired me so much, and (unfortunately for my pocketbook) inspired hubby to go back to photography.

I've especially loved the Texana shots - this unique place in your fabulous country, soooo very different from the rest of it. I recognize this vision of Texas that you show us, and I adore it. So more of that please - more of what you feel makes your world yours.

And - you don't do nearly enough B&W. I know it's probably not your favourite, but you did have a few really nice works - like the club chair and the diner for one of the earlier 2 things challenge. I loved those, very, very atmospheric.

So here is what I would like to see: not a specific topic, but the magic of the American spirit. You know the one - we all fell in love with it at one point or another, and believed in its beauty - for me, it was the Old Hollywood glamour thing, the vast expanse of the Texan heart, the quaintness of a street in Vermont.

Or just ignore all the suggestions and do what you want - you're so much better at it than any of us anyway!

Whew. I was afraid I wasn't going to get any suggestions. Aw, I should have known better. You guys are a great bunch.

Mom and Nelda thank you. You two have been lovely to me for a VERY long time. Way back before blogs were even a twinkling in some Nerd's eye.

John, your suggestions are going to give me quite a few sleepless nights. In a good way. They beg to be done honorably.

Diane, you read right. I wanted challenges and boy howdy, you gave 'em to me. I can't wait to get started. Lions?! You imp, you.

Does anybody know who this Martin guy is? ha ha ha Hello Martin. Happy New Year.

Lisa, if you want suggestions I could give you a few. Heck, you could do the same suggestions I'm doing! Well, all except the Texas ones, but you could translate that to NZ, eh? Something to think about -- in between all your other projects. ;)

Aw, Andi. Thank you. I'm starting to get nervous now. Can I live up to the expectations? I know I'm going to try, anyway!

Chosha you came in like a whirlwind! I wouldn't have it any other way. I've added you to my blog reader. I've already commented on the most recent entries. Looking forward to seeing what comes from YOU.

Sweet Irene, your wishes are my command. I love your ideas and have already been mulling them over and imagining how I would approach them.

Bev, another batch I love. I guess I am especially fond of my foreign (to me) visitors because of the glimpses of their world that they've given me. I have one question for you: what do you mean "Ace camera technology assisted subliminal images?" Holy smokes that's a tough one! ha

Rima, big happy sigh. So glad to see your sweet "face" here again. Good bye rotten ol' O' Seven. O' Eight is goin' be Fate! (I'm not sure what that means, but something GOOD for crying out loud.)

Everyone, all of you dears, thank you for your suggestions. I'm truly relieved, excited, and petrified all at the same time.
