Sisters 2002

Audrey and Antigone, 2002 I think

I have been very busy with work and so have dug through the archives to fulfill my promise of a Photo A Day.

I also apologize to all for not being a good interactive blogger these days -- a work project is all-consuming at the moment. But I do look forward to catching up with you all this weekend. Yay!

Good morning, Morning Glory

Neighbor's pride and joy

I was out on a "photo safari" the other day when a not-near neighbor's morning glories stopped me dead in my tracks. I got out of my truck, and took a picture. Then I walked a little closer and took another picture. Then I walked even closer and took another picture, with the nose of my camera just darn near in the center of the bloom. Then I heard a sweet little, "Hello?"

No, silly. It wasn't the flower talking to me. It was the owner. She didn't speak much English, but with my broken (very broken) Spanish I conveyed my adoration of her amazing glories. Before I left, she had told me how to plant them, and sent me home with a baggie full of seeds. :)

I'VE BEEN TAGGED!
Name four places you have lived.
Henrietta, Oklahoma, home of Troy Aikman.
Roswell, New Mexico, home of the "Roswell alien landing"
Derby, Kansas, home of my first love, famous only to me
Alexandria, Egypt, home of Alexander the Great. Or at least his name sake.

Four foods you like.
Homemade Salsa
Tabouleh
Pizza with almost all cheese, little sauce
Fresh fruit -- whatever is in season -- strawberries, nectarines, cherries, pomegranates, you name it.

Four places you have been on vacation
Brummana, Lebanon for my high school reunion
Lincoln National Forest, New Mexico camping when I was a kid
San Francisco, California, just my husband and I -- a nice kidless vacation
Chihuahua, Mexico -- just three days, but they were wonderful

Four places you would rather be.
New Mexico
New Mexico
New Mexico
New Mexico.
(It's been on my mind a lot lately. Far, but not too far.)

If you haven't already been tagged, I tag:
Antigone, Audrey, Frances, Rima, Neda, Nelda, Donna (yes you Donna), Irene, Beverley, Sarmad and Linda, and Windy. All my favorites :)

Kitten's SPT

Self Portrait Tuesday

Going through my camera pictures today, imagine my reaction when I see this surprise picture from last night. Taken by Kitten herself. It's cracked me up all day.

Summer not over, quite

Katlynn at Granny Bay's

If you are three years old, summer lasts a bit longer than it does for grown-ups.

Autumn

No Spring nor Summers beauty hath such grace, as I have seen in one Autumnal face.
-- John Donne

Goodbye, Summer. You were sweet and you were bitter. I won't look back. Here's a suggestion for Fall's theme music. (Thank you, Audrey. It's beautiful and really grows on you.)

Friday Night Fun

Flashlight flower

What I did:
  • Used a tripod.
  • Used the "Night scenery" setting on my camera -- which basically sets the camera to a long exposure with the shutter open wide.
  • Used the self-timer.
  • Then all that was left to do is click the shutter, walk in front of the camera, and play with the flashlight :)
Fun!

Golden Hour

Not sure, but I think this is some kind yarrow?

The days are growing shorter, the world is turning more yellow bit by bit, and it's getting hard to recall the scorching heat.

I first heard the phrase, "the golden hour" from my mother when I was growing up. She was a keen photographer then, among many other talents, and she spoke of enjoying the light during that short hour of the end of day. These roadside yellow flowers almost glowed in that golden hour.

Tent man

Woman talking to tent man

The other day, driving home from a customer site, I saw this homeless man. He's a rather nondescript homeless guy, except he's recognizable by the fact he is always seen with at least one dog on a rope with him. He's been in Odessa for several years now, living out in a field beyond the Interstate in a tent. Someone told me he is a Viet Nam vet, has chosen to live like he lives, but I don't know that for a fact.

On this day, right around 5:15 pm when people get off work, I saw a car parked on the side of the access road and a woman walking toward him with a bag in her hand, likely food of some sort. What really touched me was that after she gave it to him, she stood talking to him for a while.
